Israeli History Through Songs

The workshop offers an innovative approach to teaching Israeli history through an introduction to songs as historical sources.

We will embark on a journey through the history of the State of Israel via four key periods, from the establishment of the state to the present day.

The workshop is part of a comprehensive program that has been adapted to the format of a short conference/seminar. Teachers will experience an inspiring process that will lay the groundwork for a different approach to teaching Israeli history.

What will you experience?

Together with the participants, we will sing, analyze, and work in small groups on enjoyable and meaningful tasks to learn about periods in the history of Israel, while discussing how music teaches us about social, economic, political, and cultural changes. We will conclude the workshop feeling inspired, with a broader understanding of Israeli music as a reflection of the State of Israel.

Who should participate?

  • Teachers of ages 13 and up who are involved in Israel education and Israel studies.

  • Music lovers who are interested in Israeli music.

Why this matters

The workshop offers a unique approach to Israeli history, enabling:

  • Practical tools for use in class

  • Dealing with students' questions about Israel

  • Connecting students to Israeli history through the experience of music, which is an international language

  • Exposure to the Hebrew language, which promotes “incidental” learning

  • Exposure to Israeli culture
